Suggested Activities for Land of the Living
- This chapter tells of love, death, and renewal. Have your
students select one of these themes and discuss how it applies
to both the last chapter and the novel as a whole.
- Ask your students to create the conversation that Mercer and
Tyree might have upon meeting ten years after the conclusion
of the story.
- Tyree gives Mercer a token to remember him. Have your students
think of a item that they could give a loved one as a memento
of their relationship and have them compose a farewell letter
in which they explain the significance of this particular remembrance
token.
- This narrative contained many characters. Ask your students
to select the character that they found to be the most memorable
and explain their choice.
