Suggested Activities for Mercy

1. Have students list and compare the occupations engaged in by the members of the Quick family to common occupations followed by Philadelphians today.
2. Discuss how often members of different generations in the same family have different philosophies of life. Have students compare Manny's philosophy to his son, Tyree's.
3. Have students research how people are named in different cultures. Discuss what criteria students will use to name their own children.
4. Have students research the history of public education in Philadelphia considering the role race, ethnicity, and gender played in educational opportunities.
