Karen Armstrong | The Spiral Staircase Recorded 3/11/2004 Listen to MP3 audio
Emerging in the late 1960s from the Society of the Holy Child Jesus after seven years as a nun, Karen Armstrong became an academic and historian, freelance writer and broadcaster. She has been called nothing short of a genius, and The New York Times Book Review writes that "Armstrong can simplify complex ideas, but she is never simplistic." A History of God, Jerusalem: One City, Three Faiths and her biography, Buhdda, are among the works that have earned her a worldwide and distinctly interfaith readership. Her latest book, The Spiral Staircase, tells the story of her own spiritual search beginning with her departure from the convent in 1969 and details her life as a writer and the profound fulfillment she had not found in long hours of prayer as a young nun. This lecture with Karen Armstrong replaces cancelled Peggy Noonan lecture (10/02/03). Fall 2003 Benefactor, Angel, and Series B tickets will be honored. This lecture is separate from the Spring 2004 subscription packages.
