Festival Highlights
Vicki Myron | Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World
Sunday, April 19, Bank of America Main Stage

On a freezing morning in 1988, Spencer Public Library director Vicki Myron discovered a tiny, bedraggled kitten abandoned in the library's night drop box. She adopted the cat, naming him Dewey Readmore Books, and for 19 years, Dewey lived at the library and grew into a strutting, affable cat that brought smiles to patrons' faces. A #1 New York Times Best Seller, Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World is Myron's memoir of her loyal feline companion and how he became a beacon of hope for the struggling small town of Spencer, Iowa.

Fun for the Family
John Green | Paper Towns
Saturday, April 18, Target Children's Stage

John Green's first novel, Looking for Alaska, won the Michael L. Printz Award for excellence in young adult literature. His second novel, An Abundance of Katherines, was a Printz honor book. Along with his brother Hank, Green started a video blog called Brotherhood 2.0, which has grown into an internet community of self-professed nerdfighters. Booklist finds Green's third novel, Paper Towns, to be "clever and wonderfully witty, but also deeply thoughtful and insightful," and School Library Journal writes, "Green's prose is astounding… He nails it-exactly how a thing feels, looks, affects-page after page."

The Jimmies
Sunday, April 19, Target Children's Stage

Winners of the 2007 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award and the 2007 Parents' Choice Award, The Jimmies take being silly very seriously. The School Library Journal describes their album, Make Your Own Someday: Silly Songs for the Shorter Set as "pure pleasure," and Parents Choice writes: "With intelligent lyrics, fine musicianship, and a keen ear for what children and their parents like to hear, this fun and joyful album is well worth a spin."
