From the North, via I-95
After Girard Avenue, exit, keep to the right. I-95 will split (stay in
the second lane from the right); take the right-hand for for I-95 Central
Philadelphia. Shortly after, it splits again; take the left fork for Rt.
676 West/ Central Philadelphia/ Route 30. In about a mile, take the Broad
Street exit. After exiting, turn right at the first light onto Vine Street,
proceed to 19th Street. The Central Library is on the right, on Vine Street,
between 19th and 20th Streets.
From South via I-95
Take Exit 17, Route 676 West/Central Philadelphia. This is a left exit.
Bear left for Route 676 West/Central Philadelphia/Route 30. Get back to
the right; in about a mile, take Broad Street Exit. After exiting, turn
right at the first light onto Vine Street, proceed to 19th Street. The
Central Library is on the right, on Vine Street between 19th and 20th
Streets.
From New Jersey via the Ben Franklin Bridge
At the end of the toll bridge, stay in the middle lanes. Take
lanes for Route 676 West/Central Philadelphia. In about
a mile take Broad Street exit. The curving ramp brings you to 15th Street
heading south. Turn right at the first light onto Vine Street, proceed
to 19th Street. The Library is on the right on Vine Street between 19
and 20th Streets.
From New Jersey via the Walt Whitman Bridge
Take Route 76 west to Route 676 East/Central Philadelphia and
exit at Ben Franklin Pkwy/23rd Street. Follow directions for From the
West, via I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
From New Jersey via the New Jersey Turnpike
Take Exit 4, Route 73 West. Take exit for the Betsy Ross Bridge
(toll) into Pennsylvania, then take I-95 South. Follow direction for From
the North via I-95.
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike
From the west: Take exit 24, Route 76 East, Schuylkill Expressway.
Follow directions for From the West, via I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
From the east: Take exit Exit 25, Route 476 South to Route
76 East, Schuylkill Expressway. Follow directions for From the West,
via I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
From the West, via I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway)
Approaching Center City, look for Exit 38, Route 676 East/Central
Philadelphia, which exits from the left. Take this and immediately
go into the right lane. Take the first exit (it comes up very quickly),
Benjamin Franklin Parkway/23rd Street. Take 23rd Street south, turn left
on Race Street, proceed to 20th Street, turn left. Cross Benjamin Franklin
Parkway (very wide with many lanes). The Central Library is on the right.
From Amtrak-
The Philadelphia stop is 30th Street Station. The best way from there
is either by taxi (5 minutes) or by foot (20 minutes). There are taxi
stands at either end of the station. To walk, exit from the east end of
the station, cross 29th Street and take the bridge which is JFK Boulevard
into Center City.
Turn left on 20th Street, go about four blocks and cross Benjamin Franklin
Parkway. (It is wide with many lanes.) The Central Library is on the right
at 20th and Vine Streets.
Using Public Transportation
Bus Routes 32, 33 and 76 stop at or within a block of the Library.
From subway, transfer to the 32 or the 33 on JFK Boulevard.
Handicapped Entrance
There is an entrance on Wood Street that is handicapped accessible.
Wood Street is located directly behind the Library, and runs parallel to Vine Street.
Since it is a one-way street, you must enter from 19th Street.
