DivaNation Jazz Showcase
Music Department at Parkway Central Library
Final DivaNation Showcase at the Free Library
DivaNation is a diverse and developing community of Philadelphia's female vocalists who evoke the spirit of legendary Jazz singers like Ethel Waters, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday, while keeping eyes and ears open to the sounds of the future. The project’s goal is to create a community (a nation of Divas!) who contribute to each other’s careers and to their community.
Through performance, public rehearsal and artistic dialogue these musicians will give audiences a sneak peek into the collaborations which will culminate in a performance series on September 12th and 13th at the Mandell Theater at Drexel University.
DivaNation is a Philadelphia Jazz Project initiative, inspired by pianist, composer and master accompanist, Aaron Graves with music direction by pianist/vocalist Dena Underwood and pianist Kendrah E. Butler.
Philadelphia Jazz Project is a sponsored project of the Painted Bride Art Center, with funding provided by The Wyncote Foundation.
