The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Whiting Award, and an award from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, Eva Hoffman was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in her teens, a journey she recounted in her acclaimed memoir Lost in Translation. She is the author of Exit Into History, Shtetl, The Secret, and After Such Knowledge. Her latest novel, Appassionata explores the light and dark faces of romanticism and the moral choices that can lead to complete emotional destruction, or the richest work of art.
