Notes:
Image taken by Philadelphia Evening Bulletin photographer Charles T. Higgins. Notes on the negative's envelope read: "Pumpkin head storage tank aerials, Aramingo and Canal; Oct. 30, 1969"
This 1969 image shows an aerial view of a Pennsylvania Sugar Refining Company's molasses storage tank, humorously decorated for Halloween. First founded at 5th & Girard in 1864, the refinery grew and relocated over the decades, to occupy a large swath of the industrial corridor along the Delaware River. Although the negative's envelope identifies the location of this tank as "Aramingo and Canal", a more accurate address is 946-948 Canal Street. By 1984, the plant closed and was vacant until 1997, when the remaining structures were torn down. Today, the Sugar House Casino occupies a part of the property.
