The One Book, One Philadelphia
Selection Committee has chosen Sherman Alexie’s War Dances
and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
as the featured selections for 2011. This year’s titles are intended to be read together, offering perspectives of youth and maturity on subject matter that includes a full range of modern relationships and current issues, as seen through the lens of a Native American author, poet, and filmmaker.
One Book, One Philadelphia is a joint project of the Mayor’s Office and the Free Library of Philadelphia that promotes reading, literacy, library use, and community building by motivating tens of thousands of people to read an annual featured selection. Marking the ninth consecutive year for One Book, the 2011 program runs from January 19 to March 17, 2011.
In order to provide a complete reading experience for Philadelphians of all ages, One Book will also feature The Good Luck Cat by acclaimed Muskogee-Creek poet Joy Harjo for young children.
Hundreds of community partners have developed programs and contributed resources to facilitate the success of One Book, One Philadelphia. We thank our sponsors and partners for their tremendous support!
