Barack Obama is the junior United States Senator from Illinois and the first African-American male Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he was the first African American editor of the Harvard Law Review. Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama was a lecturer on constitutional law at the University of Chicago and a member of the Illinois State Senate from 1997-2004. Senator Obama has dedicated his life to public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and now as a public official.
