First elected in 1980, Arlen Specter is Pennsylvania’s longest serving U.S. Senator and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. On February 16, 2005, Specter announced that he had been diagnosed with an advanced form of Hodgkin’s disease, a type of cancer.
