A.O. Scott | Better Living Through Criticism: How to Think About Art, Pleasure, Beauty, and Truth

Tue, February 23, 2016 7:30 P.M.
Parkway Central Library

Cost: FREE

In conversation with John Timpane, Books Editor, Philadelphia Inquirer

A.O. Scott’s passionate, witty, tell-it-like-it-is New York Times movie reviews are among the most read and respected in the country. His prolific body of work reveals a plainspoken intellectual interested in multiple forms of art and criticism. A former book reviewer for Newsday and frequent contributor to Slate, he served on the editorial staffs of Lingua Franca and The New York Review of Books. In addition to his film reviews, Scott currently writes for the Times Magazine and the Book Review, cohosts the film podcast Critics’ Picks, and is particularly noted for his end-of-the-year best-of film lists. His new book celebrates the presence and necessity of criticism in our artistic creations, civil responsibilities, and personal lives.
