Hypnosis & Your Health

By Joe S. Fri, September 21, 2018

Hypnosis, using its power to heal or influence others, has captured our public imagination long ago. It is a popular and often misunderstood technique that has been used for a variety of things, such as for quitting smoking, curing diseases, getting rich and even CIA interrogations.

The famous Charles Dickens was a big fan of hypnotism's forerunner, mesmerism, as evidenced in this letter he wrote about the "magnetic boy" that is housed in the Rare Book Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia. In this informative lecture,

Eric Spiegel, Ph.D. will speak about his experience with hypnosis, its portrayal in the media, and its potential for clinical applications in what is sure to be an informative and entertaining event on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Parkway Central Library.

Dr. Siegel is a licensed and practicing psychologist, director of Attune Philadelphia Therapy Group, and President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) for 2018-2019. He has won numerous awards from ASCH, including their Early Career Achievement Award (2012). Dr. Spiegel is the co-author of the book Attachment in Group Psychotherapy, published by the American Psychological Association. He has also published journal articles and book chapters on subjects such as attachment, hypnosis, group therapy, anxiety, trauma, and relationships.
