Do you long for the days of Nick at Nite, TRL, the Spice Girls, and Fresh Prince? Do you catch yourself saying "as if" and "talk to the hand" in casual conversation? Do you still wear your hair in "The Rachel" and rock overalls?
Then all of your 1990s nostalgia dreams are about to come true!
Join the Raven Society, the Free Library’s community of young supporters, on Thursday, March 19, for Back to the ’90s, in partnership with the Field Teen Center! This event is an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Free Library’s new Field Teen Center—usually only open to teens. We will experiment with their "maker" projects, learn about opportunities to volunteer for programs like Adulting 101, play vintage video games, and party like it’s 1999. The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at Parkway Central Library.
The Field Teen Center opened in April 2019 as part of the Reimagined Parkway Central Library, a unique space unlike any other at the Free Library! It’s reserved just for ages 12 to 18, in order to create a safe space for teens to feel empowered to learn and grow. The Field Teen Center provides access to a large collection of young adult fiction, manga, and comics, as well as unique daily programming. Since the space opened, teen attendance and engagement at Parkway Central Library have soared. Staff estimate being able to serve approximately 12,500 teens in 2020.
The Raven Society is an active, engaged community of young Library supporters, ages 21 to 40, who enjoy exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the Free Library’s collections and distinct social events throughout the year. Membership contributions from the Ravens provide critical, unrestricted support for the Free Library of Philadelphia’s programs and mission to advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity.
