Born and raised in India, Megha Majumdar attended Harvard, then earned a graduate degree in social anthropology at Johns Hopkins. She is now an editor at Catapult, a publishing company dedicated to promoting emerging authors and connecting writers with online resources. In A Burning, her “beautiful and supple” (Boston Globe) debut novel, Majumdar tells the interwoven tales of three young people seeking upward mobility amidst modern India's rapid social and political changes.
Mumbai native Vikram Paralkar is a physician and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania who specializes in the treatment of leukemia. He is the author of The Afflictions, wherein a young librarian peeks inside a fictional compendium of bizarre and impossible diseases. In his new novel, Paralkar spins the fabulist tale of a surgeon in rural India who is offered the chance to bring a murdered family back to life.
