Who Was Marlon Brando?
Virtual
On Wednesday, June 29th at 11:00 A.M., Central Senior Services presents a free Zoom lecture entitled "Who Was Marlon Brando?" Our guest speaker is the distinguished Hollywood Historian, Dr. William J. Mann. He is the author of the definitive Brando biography, "The Contender." Troubled by a learning disability and plagued by two alcoholic parents, Brando was an angry man with a lot to be angry about.. His father, Marlon Brando, Sr. convinced the boy that he was worthless and would never amount to anything. Mother Dodie was a loving, but unreliable spirit, who always seemed to drift away when the boy needed her most. In the years to come, scores of women opened their arms and hearts to Brando, only to discover that this strange child-man seemed determined to hurt and humiliate them. For his part, "Bud," Brando believed that Stella Adler, his imperious, but fiercely devoted drama coach, was the only woman who had never let him down. As time went by, Brando felt that even his finest films meant nothing compared to the crusades for social justice that he wanted to pursue.
