A Love Letter to Philadelphia: Food through Photography
Art Department at Parkway Central Library
Join the Culinary Literacy Center and Art Department in the sun-bathed Skyline Room for an afternoon of Philly, food, and photos with local photographer Neal Santos. Learn the basics of food photography through technical skill and camera work, lighting, and some software combined with practical hands-on learning by building a still life.
You’ll walk away with an understanding of styling and prepwork, composition, lighting and post production and editing. We’ll be utilizing both natural and artificial light in a controlled setting, setting up stands and reflectors, and moving through building a charcuterie board still life together, to be photographed and enjoyed by all.
This event is open to artists of all ages and skill levels. Bring any camera or smart phone to capture your own images, and you’ll walk away with a stronger foundation in photography and a deeper appreciation of food, and food photography as a love language.
All proceeds from ticket sales go towards supporting the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English language learning. Free tickets are available for SNAP-eligible families and for anyone who cannot afford the fee right now but would still like to participate. Please email kitchen@freelibrary.org for more information.
