The School District of Philadelphia was named the first school district in Pennsylvania, when it was organized by law in 1818.
The Controllers of the Public Schools of the First School District of Pennsylvania was established in 1845 to support the care, education and evolution of Philadelphia schools, noting school progress through annual reports. This exhibition highlights artifacts from this collection.
