“Mapping Imagination” Curator-Led Exhibition Tour
Rare Book Department at Parkway Central Library
The Free Library’s newest exhibition, Mapping Imagination: The Art of World-Building explores the creative and artistic choices that mapmakers use to build worlds and enhance storytelling. The exhibition delves into the relationships between imaginary maps (found in fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, and other genres) and traditional maps (of real places). Visitors will discover the ways fantastical maps borrow elements from traditional maps to establish a sense of realism. The exhibition features tactile maps and an audio narration to supplement your exhibition experience.
The free tour will be led by the exhibition’s curators in the Dietrich Gallery, which is located on the third floor of the library in the Rare Book Department. Registration is not required!
The exhibition is on display through August 31, 2023.
Mapping Imagination: The Art of World-Building and its related programming are made possible by generous support from the Lindback Foundation, the Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation, and the Independence Foundation.
