Penn’s Village Presents: Soul Food (1997)

Join Penn’s Village and the Free Library of Philadelphia for Penn’s Village Presents, a free film series at the Philadelphia City Institute Library. Discussion will follow each screening. On the second Mondays of the month (with the exception of October which will be held on the first Monday), we’ll explore the work of Orson Welles through a six-screening retrospective.
The film Soul Food (1997) will be screening today. Writer/director George Tilman Jr. drew from personal history to portray a Black Chicago family for which Sunday dinner symbolizes contentious but indestructible love. With Vanessa L. Williams, Vivica A. Fox, Nia Long, not to mention fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, chitlins, baked ham, collard greens, biscuits, cornbread and peach cobbler.
Registration is not required and these films are free and open to the public.
