Kickoff Party: Vinyl Record Listening Club
Music Department at Parkway Central Library
New club alert! The Music Department is starting a club for folks to listen to and discuss vinyl records! We welcome music lovers of all levels, whether you are brand new to vinyl records or an old hat at crate digging.
We will be meeting on last Wednesdays of the month, in the Music Department, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. You can both bring your own records from home, or we can have a librarian-led listening journey through the library's vinyl collection. You are responsible for your own vinyl. This club is for adult patrons (18+).
Our theme for this month is First Vinyl (to match our first session!). This can be a first listen, first purchase, first of a genre, first of a favorite arist, we're open to interpretation! For example: Librarian Jane, your club leader, dug around in their mom's basement for Mark Shreeve's 1984 release Assassin (their first remembered album listen at the age of 4, thanks dad) and the first hidden-in-the-stacks library find they devoured, Charles Dodge's 1970 release Earth's Magnetic Field.
Don't have your own vinyl? Not a problem! Is there an album from our online or card catalogs you want us to play? You can fill out our Album Request Form (a Google Form) and Librarian Jane will pull it from our stacks ahead of our club meetup!
Please sign up for our club email list to get meeting reminders, information about music themes, or rescheduling/cancelation notices! For this first meeting, please register at our Eventbrite!
We're so excited to start spinning vinyl with you!
