Rediscovering the Blues: Rock n' Roll Seminar

Wed, July 16, 2025 6:00 P.M. Add to your calendar
Music Department at Parkway Central Library

6:00-7:30 PM in the Music Department. RSVP

Have you heard of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Led Zeppelin? Probably. How about Big Bill Broonzy, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, and Muddy Waters? Perhaps not. During this seminar, attendees will explore the music and careers of the blues greats who inspired the likes of the Rolling Stones as well as generations of other musicians in genres ranging from rock n' roll, country, and hip hop. Guided by rock n' roll historian Stephen Tow, attendees will listen to the music together and exchange thoughts and ideas about how the music resonates today. We’ll also explore cover versions of some of these classics and compare them to the originals.

Stephen Tow has been an adjunct professor of history at Delaware Valley University since 1999 where he created a course on rock n roll history. As part of that, he arranged to have a number of prominent musicians talk to the students including members of The Kinks, The Byrds, Nirvana, Talking Heads, Patti Smith Group, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Go-Go’s, Chicago, and many others. In addition, he is the author of two music-related history books: London, Reign Over Me: How England’s Capital Built Classic Rock and The Strangest Tribe: How a Group of Seattle Rock Bands Invented Grunge.
