Author Talk: David Brownlee

Wed, May 16, 2018 6:30 P.M.
Philadelphia City Institute

New Tales from the Parkway in sync with the celebration of the centennial of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, David Brownlee has prepared a new edition of his Building the City Beautiful: The Benjamin Franklin Parkway and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He'll share some of his new research about what was there before demolition, the role played by Julian Abele, the notable African-American architect, in the design of the Free Library and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the hidden history of the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the rivalrous relationship of two French architects, Paul Cret and Jacques Gréber.

This program is co-sponsored by Friends in the City (FitC) and the Philadelphia City Institute Library, and will be held in the meeting room on the library’s lower level. We regret there is no elevator.
