A Children's Taste of African Heritage
Sat, March 31, 2018 10:30 A.M.
Families with children ages 8 to 12 are invited to join food educator Claire Richardson for a FREE cooking series from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM exploring African Heritage Foods. Each class features an introductory cultural lesson and cooking activity designed to bring the African Heritage Diet Pyramid to life and allow participants to discover the major foods of the pyramid while learning basic cooking skills and some simple, healthy recipes to try at home.
Traditionally, African American ancestors ate a delicious, plant-based diet that was high in flavor and naturally low in cholesterol, sugars, and excess sodium. A Taste of African Heritage brings this savory traditional way of eating back to life to improve health and wellbeing.
Diabetes is not a part of African heritage.
Neither is heart disease.
Together, we can reclaim health by reclaiming history.
Join us for this powerful program, as we reconnect to those foods and a long lineage of healthy eating that has the power to heal and inspire.
Participants are encouraged, but not required to attend every class in the series. To sign up, contact the librarian at Widener by phone at (215) 685-9799. This class is open to children ages 8 to 12 and their caregivers.
