On March 1, 1932, the twenty-month old son of noted aviator Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped from his home near Highlands, New Jersey. On May 12, his decaying body was discovered nearby. Bruno Richard Hauptmann was arrested for the crime, tried, was found guilty, and was executed. Writer H.L. Mencken called the kidnapping and trial “the biggest story since the Resurrection” and legal scholars have referred to the trial as one of “the trials of the century.” This program will examine the crime, Bruno Hauptmann’s possible role in the crime, and will try to answer “who killed the Lindbergh baby?”
Lectures are presented by Steven Wright, Adult/Teen Librarian, and will last 60 to 90 minutes. Discussion and questions are encouraged!
