In this workshop, we'll learn about milk, Pennsylvania's local dairy culture, and the basics of pasta filata cheeses. Alex Jones will demonstrate and sample a quick-set mozzarella recipe that's easy to make at home with raw milk and a few simple ingredients.
Alex Jones is a writer, cheesemonger, food educator, and regional food systems advocate who has been working with farmers and artisans in Pennsylvania for the past eight years. She is one-third of the team behind Collective Creamery, a women-powered artisan cheese subscription based in southeast Pennsylvania, and has written for publications like CivilEats.com, Edible Philly, Edible Jersey, and Grid in addition to working as a digital contributor for Foobooz.com, Philadelphia magazine's food and drink vertical. She teaches cheese appreciation and pairing classes as well as home cheesemaking in and around Philadelphia.
Collective Creamery is a women-powered artisan cheese subscription. Run by cheesemakers and farmers Sue Miller of Birchrun Hills Farm and Stefanie Angstadt of Valley Milkhouse as well as cheesemonger and food writer Alex Jones, Collective Creamery brings the best of artisan cheeses from pasture-based, small-scale family farms to households in the Mid-Atlantic. The trio also produce the Collective Creamery Podcast, the only podcast by cheesemakers. Subscribe and listen at collectivecreamery.com/podcast/
This program will be held in the meeting room on the library’s lower level and we regret there is no elevator.
