Community Care with Blew Kind: Poetry Workshop with Tea & Talks
Sat, March 9, 2019 1:00 P.M.
Culinary Literacy Center at
Parkway Central Library
Blew Kind is the founder and owner of Franny Lou's Porch, a coffee and tea shop in Kensington that is dedicated to providing space for people to connect, rest, and mobilize. She is a lover of the African diaspora, poetry, teaching, dance, and sustainable business. Blew is committed to providing a safe place for individuals and groups to engage and deepen understanding and conversation.
Join Blew in discussion as she shares more about the choices that she makes in sourcing her supplies, setting up her cafe's environment, and providing events and space for community members, all with community health at the center of these decisions. Workshop attendees will be invited to join in reflection through guided writing exercises and group conversation, with the focus of the day revolving around showing ourselves care, and showing our community care, through our presence, our choices, and our dollar.
This workshop is open and welcoming to teenagers and adults, and is designed for people ranging in poetry and writing experience.
Coffee, tea, and lights snacks from Franny Lou's Porch are included. Please bring a favorite notebook, or just bring yourself. All necessary writing supplies will be available.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at freelibrarycook.eventbrite.com. SNAP eligible participants are provided with a free ticket, with advance communication. Please call the Culinary Literacy Center at (215) 686-5323 to receive one of these reserved tickets, no questions asked.
