Our favorite meals that we eat and the books that we read stay with us years after we've eaten the last bite or turned the last page. Does the taste or aroma of your favorite plate of food evoke childhood memories? Can you remember scenes from your favorite childhood books? Have you ever been brought back by the scent of something baking in the oven? Do you still count characters from long-ago finished stories among your oldest friends?
Join us as we welcome Philly-based Chef Valerie Erwin of EAT Cafe for a joint program with the Literature Department and Culinary Literacy Center, Literary Dishes. Drawing inspiration from the well-loved Jazz-Age short stories of Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and others, Chef Erwin will some prepare some choice dishes of the period. As we eat together, we'll discuss the how food and literature play a role in our most treasured memories.
