This workshop is part of the Free Library's fourth annual Social Justice Symposium for young people age 12-20. Online registration is required at https://forms.gle/49wrpfQGw9bgLgq6A.
Liliana Velásquez will share her story of fleeing insufferable poverty and violence in Guatemala, traveling through Mexico by herself, getting caught in the Arizona desert, and being put in detention by the U.S. immigration authorities. She will tell of her fight to become a permanent resident in the United States and how she is in college pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse.
Liliana Velásquez is the author of the memoir, Dreams and Nightmares / Sueños y Pesadillas. She is currently studying in college, and hopes to become a nurse.
