Jeanette Winterson burst onto the literary landscape at the age of 25 when she published the semi-autobiographical Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, the coming-of-age tale of a young lesbian rebelling against her conservative English Pentecostal upbringing. Winterson is also the author of numerous other novels, children’s books, nonfiction, and screenplays. A writing professor at the University of Manchester, she is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Through “deeply evocative historical realism balanced by hilarious, almost bawdy set pieces” (Guardian), Frankissstein spins a centuries-spanning tale of Mary Shelley, transhumanism, and cryogenics.
