Holmesburg Prison: Klondike Bake-Oven Deaths

During the summer of 1938, Holmesburg Prison inmates were placed in a punishment block known as “Klondike,” where they were cooked alive for allegedly leading a food strike. Allen Hornblum, author of the recent fictional novel Klondike Bake-Oven Deaths, will give a presentation at the library about this gruesome episode in local history. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
