The story of an eccentric and gifted young man who gains a deeper understanding of himself while solving a neighborhood mystery, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is the 2017 featured One Book, One Philadelphia selection. The New Yorker says, “This original and affecting novel is a triumph of empathy,” and The Daily Telegraph states, “Haddon is to be congratulated for imagining a new kind of hero, for the humbling instruction this warm and often funny novel offers and for showing us that the best lives are lived where differences are cherished.”
Now celebrating our 15th anniversary, One Book, One Philadelphia offers lectures, discussions, films, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and children’s activities that illuminate themes within the featured reading selection. Exciting activities that connect to mathematics in everyday life, puzzles, and mysteries, as well as empathy and understanding, will fill our calendar of events, in addition to programs that raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The 2017 featured book will come to life on stage at the Academy of Music as part of the 2016–17 Broadway Philadelphia season. The Tony Award-winning National Theatre production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will run from February 28 through March 5, 2017. To learn more, visit The Kimmel Center.
