Effective Monday, August 3, 2009, the Music Department in the Parkway Central Library will be closed for major renovations.

The lighting in the main room and in the stacks will be replaced, and the project will achieve energy efficiency with new lighting wiring and controls, improve the structural integrity of all fixtures in the room, and restore original ornate plaster and other architectural elements. The Free Library will incorporate new lighting fixtures designed by Moshe Safdie Associates, the world-renowned architectural firm which designed the new Parkway Central Library addition. The lighting fixtures are inspired by the original lighting used on the 2nd floor of Parkway Central and combine modern design with historic influences. Other updates include repainting the entire room and replacing window treatments.

To provide customer access, the circulating CD collection will be housed in the Philbrick Lending Library on the first floor.

Customers can continue to place holds on music items through our online catalog.

The Fleisher and Drinker collections will remain open under normal hours and will not be affected by the Music Department closure.
