The Free Library is excited to announce the addition of video games to its vast catalog of borrowable materials!
Why video games at the library, you ask? Well, stories aren't confined to books alone! Video games present immersive worlds where players become the protagonists of their own adventures. From unraveling intricate narratives to solving complex puzzles, video games offer a unique form of interactive storytelling that engages the mind and imagination.
Here's more information on what patrons can expect:
- Free Library patrons can borrow up to three games at a time on their library card
- Available titles can be perused and put on hold at freelibrary.org/videogames
- Titles will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and XBOX One and XBOX X gaming systems
- Games fall under two collections: Children and Teen/Adult
- Each Free Library location will house 100 video game titles to start
Video games and literacy share a symbiotic relationship. Through character development, immersive world-building, and complex narratives, gaming can help foster literacy skills by engaging players in critical thinking, problem-solving, and comprehension skills.
