The Free Library Workplace Department provides programming and resources to help you through your job search or career transition.

Here is a collection of resources from the Free Library and beyond for job-seeking support.

Support for Federal Workers

  • Federal Employee Transition Workshops at the Free Library: Join fellow federal workers for a workshop aimed at updating resumes, leveraging job search tools, and networking to help you transition to your next rewarding role. Register at: tinyurl.com/libraryFETW
  • CivicMatch: Looking to transition to a job at the state or local government levels? CivicMatch is a free, nonpartisan talent-matching program that connects federal workers with meaningful state and local government roles nationwide. Apply to connect with potential employers.
  • Careers for Federal Employees in State Government: Continue your public service with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Former federal employees with valuable experience can more easily apply for relevant commonwealth jobs due to the recent state Executive Order 2025-01 directing that federal government experience will be treated as equivalent to commonwealth work experience for identified critical vacancies.
  • PA CareerLink®: Get job search assistance and individualized support with résumé development and career counseling from PA CareerLink. In addition to PA CareerLink® Centers, Community Workforce Connectors offer free one-on-one assistance at many library locations. Find upcoming times at a library near you or call PA CareerLink® for additional assistance at 1-833-750-JOBS.
  • Unemployment Benefits: Federal employees or contractors who worked in Pennsylvania and lost work through no fault of their own may be eligible for unemployment benefits. UCHelp.org helps Pennsylvanians navigate unemployment benefits.
  • Contact phillyfedhelp@gmail.com: A volunteer has tips to help federal workers re-enter the job market.
