Free Library Welcomes Papal Visit with New Ecumenical Exhibit (no link)

The exhibit, “Sacred Stories: The World’s Religious Traditions,” will include a wide range of religious texts from Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. Janine Pollock said it took almost a year to put the exhibit together and showcase the best pieces. The exhibit holds about 70 objects, including books, scrolls, handwritten manuscripts and more than 20 miniature paintings.

The Rosenbach Museum and Library will present Catholic texts printed in the New World from the 16th to 18th centuries (1 September-30 January 2016), while the Free Library of Philadelphia’s rare book department will showcase historical texts from multiple faiths (31 August-30 January 2016).

Philly Museums Ready for Pope’s Visit: It is like “a combination of the president coming and the Olympics,’” said a spokeswoman for Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia, referring to an upcoming visit by Pope Francis for the World Meeting of Families (September 22-27).
