Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Starts Soon!

By Autumn M. RSS Mon, October 26, 2015

The United States is about to enter its third year of Marketplace (Affordable Care Act / Obamacare) Open Enrollment. This year, consumers can sign up for health insurance between November 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. In order to be insured on January 1, 2016, you must enroll by December 15.

Did you know that Pennsylvania expanded its Medicaid program this year? If you didn’t qualify for insurance coverage in past years, things may have changed; there are now more opportunities for those who have low incomes.

The Free Library is again offering help for patrons who need some guidance going through the process. Our group of expert partner organizations is staffed with federally funded, certified navigators and assistors, and they will work one-on-one with you. You can make an appointment to get help at any one of the following 15 neighborhood libraries:

Bustleton

Parkway Central will also be hosting several walk-in events, at which you can ask questions and get assistance. Come to 1901 Vine Street between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on one of the following dates:

November 7, 2015

November 21, 2015

December 12, 2015

January 9, 2016

January 23, 2016

Still have questions about the Affordable Care Act and what it means for you? The Free Library’s ACA web resources page (which will be updated very soon!) has links to several organizations that explain all the ins and outs. You can also go directly to the Marketplace or call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325) to get an estimate of what you would pay; find out more about Medicaid; or explore information about coverage for veterans, immigrants, and other populations. Another great resource for anyone who has questions about health insurance is this roadmap from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. And of course, you can also call any of the Free Library’s locations to find out more about the services we are offering. Get covered while you can!

Have a question for Free Library staff? Please submit it to our Ask a Librarian page and receive a response within two business days.
