November 2016 Early Literacy Calendar

By Sarah S. RSS Thu, November 3, 2016

November is Native American Heritage Month, a great time to read books by and about Native Americans! This month’s book recommendations are by Native authors like Sherman Alexie, Cynthia Leitich Smith, and Joseph Bruchac, who have contributed hundreds of children’s books that feature contemporary, realistic Native children.

This month's Early Literacy calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop the five necessary Early Literacy skills of Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing, and Playing.
