Comments from the Board of Trustees following the meeting on July 27:
The Board of Trustees of the Free Library expresses our profound gratitude to the staff and public who stepped forward to help make necessary changes in the library we all love. Thank you for communicating many terrific ideas.
As a start, we commit to opening up new and more frequent avenues of communication with staff and the public to ensure The Free Library of Philadelphia is an open and transparent organization free of racism and structural inequities. In addition, we will work to support the professional growth and development of staff and ensure staff are involved in the process of selecting new leadership.
We thank you for your passion, your courage, and your willingness to be our partner as we shape the future for the Free Library.
Please look forward to additional communications regarding our process for re-opening our libraries and the selection for new leadership.
