Celebrate #BeyDay the Beyoncé Way

By Emily S. RSS Fri, September 3, 2021

September 4 is #BeyDay, the birthday celebration of our favorite Queen of the music industry—Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter.

This inspiring, outspoken, and sometimes shy Virgo is celebrating her 39th birthday this year. In that time, she has released fifteen musical albums, starred in more than ten films, directed her own music videos, invented and popularized the "visual album," published a travelogue in Essence magazine, become a mother to three children, and taken home twenty-eight Grammy awards—the most of any singer or woman-identified artist in Grammy history. "It’s not about perfection, it’s about purpose," she says.

Below are some creative ways to celebrate #BeyDay for yourself.

Channel Self-Love with Art

As Queen Bey tells us, "Your self-worth is determined by you. You don’t have to depend on someone telling you who you are." She also loves and collects art! Draw a portrait of yourself just as you are when you wake up in the morning, or in a favorite moment, or as you imagine yourself in the future. Hang it on your wall, or post your artwork to social media with pride. #IWokeUpLikeThis

Play Dress-Up

Imagine that you will be taking the stage. Raid your own closet like a costume designer. Combine the items you choose in new and interesting ways to create your own unique, powerful, and awe-inspiring look.

Create an Alter-Ego

Embrace the secret side of yourself when you invent your own inner diva. When Beyoncé is nervous, she channels Sasha Fierce. What is your alter-ego’s name? What is their hidden talent? What can they do that you’ve always wished you could? Grow your confidence and envision the bravest version of yourself. As Queen Bey says, "How can we live if we don’t change?"

Learn a Dance Routine

Did you know that dancing is good for both your heart and soul? It can boost your mood, help fight depression and anxiety, and it benefits your brain. Practice with this Already Dance Tutorial. Get your body moving to the rhythm of the beat, and feel your energy grow.

Sing Your Heart Out

In your bedroom, in the shower, on the way to work or school—SING!. Perform for your family or friends in person or on Zoom. Crank your favorite song and belt it out loud. Singing is even good for your health!

Stretch Your Wings

Do you have a hidden talent, but you don’t think you’re good enough? Are you longing to try something new? "If everything was perfect, you would never learn, and you would never grow," says Queen Bey. Don’t let the false idea of perfection keep you from a new beginning, big or small. Beyoncé says, "It’s easy to hear the voices of others and often very difficult to hear your own. Every person you meet is going to want something different from you. The question is: what do you want for yourself?" Find your own way, every day, and be true to yourself.
