It’s National First Responders Day!
Every day is a great opportunity to honor the people in our community who have dedicated their lives to helping others in times of distress. These people are invaluable to society, and they deserve our recognition and praise. My uncle and his son (my cousin) are current firefighters for Philadelphia and my father is a retired Philly firefighter and EMT. I have heard many stories of heroism and what you can encounter as someone working on the front lines. Do you know a first responder in your family? Send them flowers, cook them a meal, or just give them a hug for all that they do!
Even better, have you ever considered becoming an everyday hero?
The City of Philadelphia is always looking for lifeguards, firefighters and more. EMS/EMT trainings are also done on a rolling basis!
Visit the links below to learn more about how to get involved and what it takes to become a Philly Phirst Responder! (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself with the “Ph” spelling. Blame my Phillies Phever!)

- Lifeguarding with Parks & Rec is a great way to learn lifesaving skills and dip your toes into a rewarding career as a first responder. To learn more, please reference the City resource on how to become a lifeguard.

Additionally, we have some book titles (both fiction and non-fiction) that you can recommend to the first responder in your life. And yes, I included the Baywatch movie in the booklist. Enjoy!
