Still Doing Life: 22 Lifers, 25 Years Later
Heim Center for Cultural and Civic Engagement at Parkway Central Library
Opens for public view on Monday June 27th. Special after hours opening reception Thursday June 30th 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Please RSVP on Eventbrite for the reception.
This exhibition of a project by Howard Zehr & Barb Toews consists of 22 pairs of photographs taken 25 years apart of individuals serving life without the possibility of parole sentences in Pennsylvania prisons, Still Doing Life presents the two photos of each individual side by side, along with excerpts of interviews conducted at the two photo sessions. The exhibition, and corresponding book published by The New Press in March 2022, present a deeply moving tableau of people who, for the past quarter-century, have been trying to live meaningful lives while facing the likelihood that they will never be free.
Support for the Still Doing Life exhibition and programs generously provided by the Art for Justice Fund. Still Doing Life is an exhibition co-facilitated by The Free Library, The New Press, and Vox Populi Gallery.
