Heralded as the “punk poet laureate” for her unique fusion of rock, poetry, and visual arts, Patti Smith won the 2010 National Book Award for Just Kids, “a shockingly beautiful … romance about becoming an artist in the city” (New York Magazine). Among her 11 studio albums is the 1975 debut Horses, hailed as one of the greatest in music history. Her numerous other books of essays and poetry include The Coral Sea, Year of the Monkey, and the bestseller M Train. Smith’s other honors include induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the 2011 Polar Music Prize, and the title of Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture. Hopeful, elegiac, and whimsical, A Book of Days is a collection of 365 photographs taken over the course of a single year that feature Smith’s artistic passions, intimate daily reflections, and celebrations of obscure places and beloved objects.
