Join the Free Library of Philadelphia's Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department for a screening of Arnold Perls' 1972 film Malcolm X. This documentary combines interviews, archival footage, and a voice-over narrator to highlight the life and legacy of the civil rights leader Malcolm X with a special focus on how spirituality informed his work.

This film is part of our two-part Summer Film Series. Come along with us this summer as we alternate between two film programs: In Black Luminaries we are showing films about writers and scholars of color who were influenced by philosophy, psychology, and religion and had a significant impact on, while not always being regarded as primary contributors to, these fields. In Bad Habits we will show a triptych of international films from multiple decades that examine the lives and passions of nuns as they wrestle with their faith, femininity, and identities.
