Wikipedia and Wikidata Edit-a-Thon
Education Philosophy and Religion Department at Parkway Central Library
Join the Free Library of Philadelphia's Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department for a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon!
With the help of Philadelphia WikiSalon organizers Mary Mark Ockerbloom and Doreva Belfiore, we will learn how to add and enhance Wikidata entries for women and non-binary people in the fields of education, philosophy, psychology, and religion with the goal of increasing representation.
Not sure what Wikidata is? Curious about how to get started editing Wikipedia yourself? Already an experienced editor and looking to connect with others? Interested in enhancing information on philosophy and religion? Seasoned Wiki editors and newcomers alike are welcome at this event!
The workshop will begin with a brief overview of the Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department. Following, we will have an introduction to Wikipedia and Wikidata and a Wikidata tutorial from Mary and Doreva. After this, there will be plenty of time to ask questions and get editing, aided by reference sources selected by the department's librarians. We will provide a list of people as a jumping-off point, but if you have ideas, feel free to bring those as well!
This event will take place in the Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department in Room 205 on the second floor of the Parkway Central Library. Because this event takes place outside of the Library's regular hours, access the building through the Wood Street entrance at the rear of the building.
Advance registration is requested on Eventbrite. We have limited public computers, so please bring a laptop to participate. If you have a Free Library of Philadelphia library card, please bring it with you to connect to the internet. If you do not have a library card, we will have guest passes for internet access.
