The Theosophical Movement since 1875 Exhibit
Education Philosophy and Religion Department at Parkway Central Library
This month, come learn about Theosophy, an esoteric belief system based on the writings of Russian emigre Helena P. Blavatsky, with strong roots in New York and Philadelphia. On display outside the Social Science & History Department at Parkway Central Library, The Theosophical Movement since 1875 offers an overview of Theosophical texts and local history, including the founding of the United Lodge of Theosophists in Philadelphia 100 years ago.
The display includes materials from the Education, Philosophy, & Religion and Social Science & History Departments that show a range of library materials by Theosophists and thinkers related to the movement. These library materials are placed in conversation with information on the founding of the Theosophical Society in New York (case 1) and that of the United Lodge of Theosophists in Philadelphia (case 2). For further reading on Theosophical beliefs, Theosophy's influence on philosophy, occult beliefs, New Age religions, and more, come browse our 2nd floor circulating collection or place a hold request.
Stop by anytime during Parkway Central Library’s opening hours to view the display, which is up now and will continue through the end of January.
