Yasemin Besen-Cassino will present her book The Cost of Being a Girl and discuss how part-time high school jobs start the pay gap and socialize boys and girls into pay inequality.

Yasemin Besen-Cassino is Professor of Sociology at Montclair State University. She is the author of Consuming Work: Youth Labor in America (Temple); co-author (with Dan Cassino) of Consuming Politics: Jon Stewart, Branding, and the Youth Vote in America, and co-editor (with Michael Kimmel) of The Jessie Bernard Reader.

This program is co-sponsored by Friends in the City (FitC) and the Philadelphia City Institute Library. It will be held in the meeting room on the library’s lower level and we regret there is no elevator.
