FORD X-1 MODIFIED SPORTS CAR
OCTOBER, 1965 – A lightweight, open-cockpit version of the Ford Mark II that looked so promising in the Le Mans trials was developed and run in a few races for modified sports car with moderate success.
FORD MARK II (X-1) SEBRING VICTORY
MARCH 26, 1966 – An open-cockpit Ford Mark II sports-prototype, based on the X-1 modified sports car, won the Sebring 12-hour race. This car had been returned to sports-prototype specifications after the almost unsuccessful attempt to campaign it as a modfied sports car, but did retain the open-cockpit configuration of the X-1.
