Media Type:
Photographic Prints

Notes:
Jackson Automobile Company, Jackson, Mich.
This 1912 Jackson touring car is attracting hundreds of sightseers daily to the Allen Motor Company’s showroom in Ames, Iowa. “We just had to have something to show them,” explains Fletcher Allen, Chevrolet dealer, “when our customers kept insisting on seeing a new model. Since there will be no new models until after the war, we did our best with this ‘horseless carriage’, a four-cylinder, right-hand drive, with kerosene lamps, wooden body and open sides.” The car, driven only 1,800 miles in 32 years, is still in good condition. Its motor “runs fine”.
