In the entirely new XJ001, a fresh design concept has been brought to the world-famous four-wheel-drive ‘Jeep’ vehicle. Built by Jeep Corporation, subsidiary of American Motors, it provides an experimental test platform for innovations in the growing recreational field. Built on a ‘Jeep’ Universal CJ-5 chassis, the prototype has an 81-inch wheelbase, extra –wide tread, three-speed transmission and re-enforced plastic body. Equipment includes wide wheels and tires, special instrumentation, racing-type steering wheel, hood latches and wide rally stripes.
